Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine) is one of the most common diseases in women; approximately 1 in 2 women will have incontinence at some time in their life. It is not a normal part of aging. Not all incontinence is the same – some women have stress incontinence (leaking with sneezing, activity, or lifting heavy objects), some have urge incontinence (can’t make it to the bathroom in time), and some women have both. The type of treatment depends upon the type of incontinence; there is not a ‘one size fits all’ treatment. Treatment options may include behavioral intervention, physical therapy/biofeedback, medications, or minimally invasive (often outpatient) surgical intervention.
